Dawson Dental Community Care Dental Program initiated for patients who cannot afford the services they need.
“Dawson Dental Centre is very much a community-based business,” explains owner and founder Dr. Edward Gelfand.
“Through the years we have seen how an enhanced and healthy smile improves one’s self esteem and confidence and contributes to overall good health. The Community Care Dental Program will allow us to make these benefits available for those in need regardless of their financial circumstances.”
During Oral Cancer Awareness month, Dawson patients and team members raised over $1,000 for the Oral Cancer Society.
In May, Dawson opened their doors to provide free dentistry to the Boys and Girls clubs in Guelph and Newmarket, Ontario. Each patient received a full exam and cleaning.
Dr. Gelfand selected two very deserving individuals for the smile makeover of a lifetime. Teresa Allaire of Guelph, ON., and Brooke Harrison of Aurora, ON., are in the process of getting smile makeovers valued up to $25,000. Dawson Dental sponsors Harmony Brubacher’s wish with The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. Harmony is a twelve year old patient diagnosed with oral cancer at the Dawson Dental Guelph North location and is happily continuing on with a happy childhood thanks to an early diagnosis.
“Just read about the donations to the Children’s Wish Foundation. I want to extend my thanks to you. Next Saturday, my grandson and his family are flying to Florida to go to Disney World. He is thrilled beyond words and the trip is courtesy of the Make a Wish Foundation. He has had a grueling three years of chemotherapy and this is a wonderful break from hospitals and needles. Your contributions will make similar trips possible for other children. So, from the bottom of my heart…..thank you.” – Wendy ~ Dawson Dental Patient
Free dentistry provided to families supported by community shelters in Durham, York Region and the Tri-City area. Dr. Gelfand and his office team have recently provided two days of free dental care to residents in shelters in the region.
“Women and children in shelters are in a period of major transition,” said Dr. Gelfand. “With so much upheaval in their lives, often their dental needs are overlooked and the benefits of good oral care aren’t realized. If Dawson assists even one person in moving on with their lives through improved confidence and health, our program will be considered a success.”
