7 Common Questions (And Answers!) About Invisalign Invisible Braces

Invisalign Invisible Braces

If you’re reluctant to smile because you have crooked, widely spaced teeth or bite issues, you could be a candidate for Invisalign® Invisible Braces. Invisalign is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth without orthodontic wires or brackets, using a series of clear, removable aligners. Over 1.7 million people have used this method to improve their smiles.

In this post, we’ll share 7 of some of the most common questions about Invisalign invisible braces.

How does Invisalign work?

You wear each set of clear aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position your orthodontist or dentist has prescribed.

An Invisalign-trained dentist will utilize 3D computer imaging technology to map out a complete treatment plan from the initial position to the final desired position. This imaging technology is used to design an individualized series of custom-made aligners. The patient then wears each aligner for about two weeks while the teeth move incrementally. After about two weeks the current aligner is replaced with the next one until the final position is achieved.

How do I know if Invisalign is right for me?

Invisalign can treat a broad range of dental and orthodontic conditions, which, in the past, were usually only treated with traditional braces: overly crowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, cross-bites, overbites and underbites.

What do the Invisalign aligners look like?

Invisalign aligners are clear and nearly invisible. If you’ve ever seen clear tooth-whitening trays, that should give you a good idea of what the aligners look like. Invisalign aligners are custom-made to fit and move your teeth.

Is the Invisalign treatment painful?

Each time you change to a new aligner, there may be some temporary discomfort while your teeth adjust to their new position. This is completely normal, and is a good sign that the treatment is working.

I’m worried that wearing Invisalign aligners will affect my speech?

Some people are affected more than others, but most people adjust in a short period of time to the feeling of the aligners and do not have permanent changes in their speech.

How long will I have to wear Invisalign to straighten my teeth?

Treatment time varies from case to case but typically total treatment time averages 3-6 months for the express plan and 9-24 months for the full treatment. The average number of aligners worn during treatment is 5-10 for the express plan and between 18 and 30 for the full treatment, but both will vary from case to case. How much should Invisalign treatment cost?

Of course, everyone’s budget matters, and only your doctor can determine the exact price of treatment but typically Invisalign costs are in the same range as ordinary metal braces, starting from $1,995 depending on the requirements of your case. Is Invisalign covered by Insurance?

Yes, if your insurance plan covers orthodontics it should also cover Invisalign.
