We sat down with Guelph Dentist to ask him a few questions about how he translates…
Dental Questions with Dawson’s Hanover Dentist Dr. GrundySeptember 11, 2014
Dr. Derek Grundy is one of Dawson’s newest dentist’s. Dr. Grundy and his team at Grundy Family Dental Care located in both Hanover, ON and Lucknow, ON are ready to cater to all your family oral health needs.
Having recently partnered with Dawson Dental, we thought it would be fun to sit down with Dr. Grundy to learn more about both his love for dentistry, past experiences and personal life.
Q: If you could have the smile of any Hollywood celebrity, whose would you want?
A: Danny Glover 🙂
** Dawson fun fact – Dr. Gelfand and the Guelph North Team have actually treated Danny Glover himself.
Q: What makes a great smile?
A: Harmony of teeth, lips and gums that radiates the person’s true inner beauty!
Q: If money and time were no issue, what dental treatment would you give everyone?
A: I would love to provide treatment that would combat the many issues related to compromised airways and temporomandibular joint disorder as well as poor nutrition and diet. These issues can sometimes include crowding and abraded or eroded teeth, caries and periodontal disease.
Q: People often associate dentists with discomfort, but what is the greatest joy about being a dentist?
A: Knowing that God has given me certain gifts and that dentistry allows me to use them.
Q: What is the funniest thing that has ever happened when you had someone in the chair?
A: I was sitting with a patient, reviewing the procedure prior to starting, and he asked, “Doc, will I be able to play the piano after you do today’s treatment?”
I thought about it for a moment and said, “Yes, I don’t see why this should affect your ability to play the piano”.
He said, “Good, as I can’t play the piano now”.
Q: If you had to name the single most important quality of a good dentist, what would it be?
A: You have to be a good listener for your patients. It is important, not only to listen to what they say, but how they say it and sometimes what they don’t say.
Q: What’s the best piece of advice for someone who has a fear of going to the dentist?
A: Seek treatment from a dentist who has experience helping high fear patients. This will usually be a dentist who is trained to utilize some form of sedation.
Q: What’s the biggest myth about dentists?
A: They golf on Wednesdays.
Q: What would you say is the single best way people can save on dental costs?
A: Whether it is medicine, dentistry, or your car, the best way save money is by prevention. Regular visits to your dentist are not only smart, they might even save your life! Most oral cancers are detected by dentists, and if detected early can be treated before they become life threatening.
Q: How should people go about trying to find the best dentist?
A: Ask family, friends, neighbours.
Q: What’s the single best thing you love about living & working in Hanover?
A: I love that the people we live with and the patients that we treat are small town people (or city folks who have come to their senses). That’s all I need to say… 😉
Q: Why did you pick Hanover to start your practice in?
A: After dental school, I served in the Canadian Military for 4 years. Once my time was done, Laurie and I were looking to purchase a practice in a small town, as we were both raised in a small community. Months before we started looking, I came across an ad for this practice in Hanover. We came to check it out and the rest is history. It was definitely God’s providence.
Q: If you were to pick the one thing that always make you smile, what would it be?
A: Thinking of or seeing our grandchildren. We currently have 5 and hope to have more in the future!
Dr. Grundy is welcoming new patients and is happy to offer 50% off all new patient exams including all necessary x-rays until October 31st 2014.
