How Your Dentist Can Change Your Smile with Invisalign Braces
If you have been considering a change to your smile but cringe at the thought of wearing metal braces, Invisalign braces may be the right choice for you. Patients from teens to adults have discovered that these simple, virtually invisible aligners, are the ideal solution to straighten teeth. You can finally enjoy that perfect smile without the embarrassment and tedious maintenance of traditional braces.
What is Invisalign?
Traditional braces are difficult to ignore and can make you feel self-conscious about your smile. The Invisalign system of clear “aligners” offers an alternative that not only looks better but also straightens your teeth with fewer dentist appointments.
Following your initial appointment, you will pick up your aligners and change them at home every couple of weeks. Each aligner slowly coaxes your teeth into the desired position providing you with the smile you’ve always wanted in a far shorter amount of time than traditional metal braces.
The Benefit of Braces
There are more benefits to wearing braces than you might realize. Not only do they provide you with a more attractive smile, but they can also boost confidence and improve quality of life. People with crooked teeth may experience other oral health issues such as overcrowding, overbites, underbites, and incorrect jaw positioning which can lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and even chronic earaches and headaches. If you’re experiencing more severe alignment issues such as difficulty chewing or speaking, braces will help improve these as well.
What Age Is Best for Braces?
Potential orthodontic issues will be apparent by the age of 10 and continue to present themselves up until the age of 14. During this time, we will keep an eye on development and make recommendations for braces when the time is right. It is usually best to have braces prior to adulthood; however, you can have braces throughout adulthood. Speak to your dentist about the benefits of braces and the options available.
In both cases, we recommend Invisalign as they allow you to avoid too drastic a change to your appearance while providing a low maintenance option with fewer appointments required.
Why Choose Invisalign Clear Braces?
Invisalign braces are not only your best choice for aesthetic reasons. Although they are made of a medical-grade plastic which makes them barely noticeable, they are also generally easier to live with. Unlike traditional braces where several appointments are required for adjustments, you can replace your aligners yourself every few weeks and adjust them yourself.
Also, because they are removable, you can take them out during mealtime and avoid the embarrassment of getting food caught in metal braces! More importantly, you will be able to properly brush and floss your teeth; preventing decay, cavities, demineralization, and gum disease that can occur with traditional braces.
They are customized to fit your teeth and bite. Using Invisalign’s virtual treatment plans, your dentist will provide a set of aligners that are designed to gently move your teeth into place. With each new aligner, your teeth will gradually reach optimal positioning as you add a new aligner every few weeks. Invisalign are easier to use, more comfortable, and just as effective as regular braces.
Adding to the simplicity of Invisalign, you are looking at treatment for as little as a year to 18 months for most plans, compared to as long as five years for metal braces. In fact, simple issues such as gaps can be addressed in as little as three to seven months.
Are All Invisalign Braces the Same?
Invisalign comes in four different systems allowing your dentist to choose the system that will suit your needs. Each system includes a virtual treatment plan as well as a rendition of what you can expect your teeth to look like once your treatment is complete.
The systems are as follows:
- Invisalign Full: This is the original system designed to address a multitude of orthodontic issues. They work with a virtual treatment plan and you will wear your aligners from a year to 18 months.
- Invisalign Teen: This teen system works the same as Invisalign Full with a few exceptions. They offer blue wear-indicators so that your dentist can keep tabs on how often they’re being worn. They are designed for younger teeth and include replacements in case they are lost or damaged.
- Invisalign i7: This system addresses minor orthodontic problems with just seven aligners specifically designed to deal with minor appearance adjustments in as little as three months.
- Invisalign Lite: This option can adjust issues such as gaps in as little as seven months and will also be recommended in hand with other cosmetic treatments like bridges, veneers, and crowns.
