The Zoom! light-activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The Zoom! light aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth. A study has shown that use of the Zoom! lamp increases the effectiveness of the Zoom! gel by 33% or more, giving an average improvement of eight shades.

Some patients find that this procedure causes a lot of sensitivity while others don’t note any. If sensitivity has been an issue for you in the past, you may want to consider our take-home option.

Working together with your hygienist or dentist, impressions of your teeth will be taken. From these impressions, custom take-home trays are fabricated and properly fitted with your provider. A whitening gel is placed in the custom-fitted tray that we have made especially for you. The tray is then placed over your teeth and worn for the prescribed time. As the whitening gel dissolves, oxygen enters the enamel and the dentin portion of your teeth. This process lightens stains on your enamel, and the results are usually seen within the first week.
